Hamburg - Better late than never
Sometimes it's best not to plan ahead. This was one of those occasions...
The False Start
The plan was to check out by 11am from my digs in Copenhagen, put most of my kit in the car, and then come back and work in the common area until the end of the day. Then, go back to the car, hop in and enjoy a lovely 460km, 5.5 hr drive.
But shortly after starting work, we were informed by the support team of an incident - there had been a bug discovered in the software we provide. It was all hands to the deck.
By 5pm I was hoping to leave, but we were no where near done with the incident. Instead of bail on the team, I decided to stay another night in Copenhagen.
We worked for a good few more hours, but then it got to a point where we needed a decision from the clients.. No more could be done for now, so we downed-tools.
I grabbed some food and got my head down.
A Quick Bimble
Up earlier than expected, I decided that there was a good chance it would be head down for most of the day. I headed into the city to clear the grey-matter.
It was pretty wet and drizzly, but I managed to find some really nice parts of the city...
As soon as I was back, it was time for round #2 of the incident. By the early afternoon, we were looking in a much better place. And I couldn't stay another night... that would mean an 11-12 hr drive down to Amsterdam. No thanks 😂
Time to shoot! I packed up all my kit, bundled it into the car and headed off.
Hamburg - Here we come. Finally!
I'm can't recall a huge amount of the journey - probably something to do with how tired I was / how much I was thinking about the incident at work, what we needed to do next. Plus, it was dark for the whole journey.
However, I do remember going across some mahusive bridges, and it being really windy.
I made good time and arrived by around 11pm. Parking was right underneath the hostel, so was perfect.
I grab my kit and make my way up to the room. This place is nothing like the one in Copenhagen. It's not got a great feel about it. Zero atmosphere and the decor is pretty questionable. But, this really is just a stop-over.
Up early, I get showered and go down to the communal kitchen area where I sort some coffee and breakfast. There's a washing machine and tumble-dryer here, so the plan is to get pretty much all of my kit washed.
I set up to work for the morning (I've only got a half-day today). By the time my kit is done, it's almost time to leave.
I get everything packed up and decide to head into Hamburg for a quick wonder around.
TBH, the weather was pretty bad - And I didn't really have enough time to fully explore.
Maybe one to re-visit another time. Rallsy?
